The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Replay systems will be launched at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Competitors are granted the ability to question specific calls made by the official, echoing the practice already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This technology will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step comes just a season following the AELTC rolled out ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the official to review specific decisions, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
A recent incident took place in a recent tournament last week, where a top player initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined the player was responsible for interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its tournaments.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a ball was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
