2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Transition Follows Lukewarm Response
Brinkman steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to address player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a similar step taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the full content from the president's announcement:
Team—
I know you all just finished your meeting - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and talented designers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
I invite you all in receiving Ben in the coming days. We are all eager to persist observing the evolution of the game in the weeks to come.
David

Brinkman previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the description states. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, risks, and obstacles that change every session. Do you leave securely with your collected items? Or go big, put it on the line, and hope your squad can achieve the highest spot? The option is up to you."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or supported systems, but players can anticipate additional details as development advances.
